Washington is challenging students to reframe key issues such as voluntary informed consent, especially among African Americans who have been disproportionately targeted and harmed in medical research studies. Washington is the writer of Carte Blanche: the Erosion of Medical Consent and Medical Apartheid, winner of the National Book Critics’ Circle award.
